Agnes

Agnes family"The training and help I have received has greatly improved life for me. I can use the vegetables from my shamba (garden) for my family and I can sell the rest so that I have a little money to pay for help with labour and for my children to go to school. This is my spinach and a water melon grown with the help from Seeds for Africa and training from CIFORD."

Agnes is typical of many such women in this region of Kenya. In the rural, marginalised communities it is women who are especially in need of help. There is a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS and therefore many women or older daughters are left with families to provide for. Agnes is widowed. Homes in this area are little more than a wooden shacks lined with old newspaper and yet she represents a spirit of determination and pride. The small communities work together to help one another and Agnes, and others like her, would share what little she has and would extend a sincerely warm hand of greeting. There is a joy and pride in the fact that through hard work, a great deal can be achieved. Agnes is nearer to reaching the poverty line and even rising above it - it is a very significant achievement. 56% of the total population lives below the poverty line.

Agnes has been able to improve her life and that of her family.

Will you help Agnes and others like her so that we improve the lives for similar families whilst maintaining their sense of pride and dignity? Every penny counts so donate today.
